At the age of six Kala Sensei followed his uncle (Angulo Sensei) and his older brothers foot steps in the martial arts, an Angulo family tradition which continues today. Kala Sensei began training in Karate under Graham Sensei in the kids class taught by Angulo Sensei. At the age of ten, Kala Sensei began the kids Aikido program at Graham Sensei's school. By the age of eighteen he received three rank certifications a first in Graham Sensei's school.

Sho dan (first degree black belt) in Tracy's Kenpo Karate awarded by the arts founder Al Tracy, sho-dan in Aikido fromYamashita Shihan, and Sho Dan in Yamashita Ha Kenjitsu. By the age of nineteen Kala Sensei CO-founded Aikido School of Florida with Angulo Sensei.

For the past ten years Kala Sensei has assisted Angulo Sensei in all aspects of Aikido instruction and travels with him to conduct seminars throughout the US. Kala Sensei can be seen taking ukemi for Seagal Sensei in the video documentary "Path Beyond Thought." An accomplished musician, Kala Sensei has toured with his band "All Is Well" accompanying Duran Duran on their world tour. Most recently, Kala Sensei's band was re-named 10sheen.
